The SACRED MESSENGERS collection inspired by the sacred animals of the Maya. The jaguar and a variety of birds, including the Quetzal, are some of the animals found in the collection. The animals were "created by the gods after the mountains and plants" according to the sacred book of the Maya, the Popol Vuh. For them, nature was divine and so were the animals. Man must coexist in harmony with everything that surrounds him. For the Mayans, animals were created by the gods, so that is why these have a purpose in life. Animals have the duty to be their messengers, protectors and guardians. The jaguar or Balam, as the Maya called it, is by excellence the animal that occupied the first places of the Mayan cosmovision. It was associated with power, protected the elite, and accompanied the priests, warriors and sorcerers. Its mottled skin represented the stars in the sky. Birds symbolize the link between the physical and metaphysical world. The Quetzal, Guatemala's national bird, was a symbol of majesty, beauty, fertility, abundance and life. The Maya used costumes and ornaments with their plumage, which represented the materialization of power, tribute and wealth. This collection, made in Italy, combines Italian leather and accessories with thread embroidery and high quality beads manufactured by talented Guatemalan artisans.
